FAQs

Q: I've never done yoga before, I'm not flexible... will I be able to participate?

A: Absolutely! First, please know that putting any limitations on yourself will inhibit your progress so try to remove this thought first and foremost. With each class there are a series of variations for each and every asana (posture). Just do the best you can and stick to the variation that feels best to you.

Q: What do I wear?

A: Wear comfortable, breathable workout clothing. We prefer that our practitioners wear modest clothing. (Please, no bikinis or underwear.) Please remove your shoes, we practice in bare feet.

Q: What should I bring?

A: Bring water (non-disposable bottle), a yoga mat and a towel. If you have them and wish to bring them; blocks and straps are helpful for some practitioners. We have spare yoga mats ; however, for hygienic reasons, we kindly ask that you bring your own.

Q: How should I prepare for class?

A: There are a few things we highly suggest:

  • Come on an empty stomach. If you need to eat less than 2 hours prior to class -- try to eat light foods such as fruit.
  • Drink plenty of water before (at least one hour before) and after class. It is best to be fully hydrated before class.
  • Try to relax your breath and body prior to starting class, come early so that you can give yourself time to wind down.
  • Inform your teacher of any injuries or impediments.
  • * Please let your instructor know if you do not feel comfortable receiving hands on adjustments. (We are non-invasive.)

Q: Will I be sore the next day?

A: It depends on how active you currently are and whether you are properly hydrated, rested and nourished. Generally speaking, you will be sore and it is normal. If you experience soreness, try taking a hot epsom salt bath. We also recommend some light stretching as soon as you awake and throughout the day - if you are able, go back to yoga. Your soreness will dissipate with more frequent practice.

Q: Is yoga a religion?

A: Yoga can be a spiritual practice, should you choose for it to be ; however, it is NOT a religion, yoga is a science.

Q: I'm pregnant ~ Can I practice?

A: Congratulations! First please seek advice from your physician. It is recommended that you had been practicing for at least 3 months prior to your pregnancy. Attending yoga while pregnant is a great way to assist in having a smooth pregnancy and delivery! You'll need to begin modifying your postures at about 10 weeks, please see your teacher for guidance. (At 10 weeks you'll want to begin avoiding compressions and any posture done on your belly.)

Etiquette

We don't like rules either... However, these guidelines are important to ensure that classes run smoothly. Basically, just practice awareness and respect.

  • If it is your first trip to the studio please arrive at least 15 minutes prior to class.
  • Please be on time. It is very distracting to class when a practitioner arrives late.
  • Avoid wearing any unnatural scents. This is strictly enforced as many practitioners have allergic reactions to perfumes and colognes. On that same point, please arrive clean (for the sake of your neighbor).
  • If you will be joining us on a regular basis, please purchase and bring your own mat, towel and water bottle. We do not rent mats/towels - in order to keep costs down and for hygienic reasons it is important to us that students consider bringing their own items. (If you are traveling, or have forgotten - we have these items available for you at no charge.)
  • Please turn your cell phone off.
  • Place your belongings in the baskets and shelves provided.
  • Prior to the start of class, please avoid speaking or moving loudly. Some practitioners come in early to meditate.
  • If others are still resting in shavasana after class please respect silence throughout the space.
  • Be respectful of customers entering and exiting the other tenant parking spaces and buildings.
  • Please refrain from holding conversations during class.
  • Be receptive.
